philology: an affinity towards the leaning of the backgrounds as well as the current usages of spoken or written methods of communication.
communication: the act or process of communicating; the imparting or interchanging of thoughts, opinions or information by speech, writing or signs.
My aim is to remediate a dead media and create a new platform for a functionally intelligent object of communication; to create an insightful project which meshes the simplicity and humanness of old communication with the technology based communication tools we use today.
My research has shown that co-existence of old and new which is far richer than any single medium that becomes a focus of interest because it is novel.

Asking myself question such as where will the designed object live? where will it be kept? what will it be made from? what will it feel like? have been at the forefront of my thoughts throughout this investigation. I believe that poetic moments can be intertwined with the everyday and not separated from it.
My thoughts and inspiration from concepts are depicted in more depth on my blog. From the very outset of this project I have been blogging every day to show a break down of my time. In particular this space acts a canvas for douceurs. a way for me to document my process and development for my project.
I intend to explore the interior, form and aesthetics associated with internet cafes, libraries and more book shops as they could become the home of my object if it develops into a more conceptual unusual object.
Will douceurs be the communication device that works when nothing else does? When all the other forms of communications we rely on are cut; the equivalent of the torch we keep under our beds for emergencies?

This video is a prototype of an idea.

type messages into furniture. store them . a secret armchair. press print when you choose. or never print and leave it behind as a legacy. a route for venting frustrations...
