the product.
This section aims to illustrate my appraisal on the physical product related to Douceurs as well as portray any feedback gained from user testing.
These testimonials are from people who have been involved in Douceurs from the outset. I intend to do further testing with the people who responded to the advert in the Evening Telegraph.
“A product that helped me find the words to say I love you.”
“ It is perfect for these times in life, when ideas fail to come and all you can think of is words.”
“Truly explores the notion of a blank sheet of paper being alive with possibility.”
“The kind of thing that keeps lonely poets company on a Sunday.”
I am very happy with the final product. I believe it meets all the specification outlined by myself and my tutors. It was an important factor for the product not to too look crafty and look slightly futuristic. This was a design challenge in itself and I am proud to say I believe I have met this challenge. However, I regret taking so long to get to grips with it.
I regret not making more rough prototypes more often. Looking back I do feel I set myself unnecessary boundaries when designing this product, I was getting too complicated and should have realised earlier that indeed "less is more".
Working with the experts who manufactured the final product has been an invaluable learning curve. I do regret not meeting with Dupuy Design earlier on in the process as I believe looking at materials etc. earlier would have perhaps sparked off more ideas.
A huge disappointment whilst designing this product has been the lack of resources to find high quality paper. I can honestly say I have tried very hard to talk to a wide range of companies and request samples etc. yet this area seemed very unproductive at times. Curtis Fine Papers were very helpful in supplying the final paper - which is Fine Felt white paper.
I am very happy with my final concept and believe the time I spent playing to think, and obsessing on the details was definitely worth it!
